SIR – While having a social drink with a close colleague and friend of mine who has been a psychologist for 20 years or more, he informed me that the Department of Work and Pensions is now calling genuinely retired and disabled people in to the Job Centre Plus to help them get back to work.

I would be really interested to find out what they think they will achieve or the motive.

They’ve already ruined our decent way of living by lowering our cold weather payment, dipping into our state pension and threatened to take away our bus passes.

We all know once past the age of 60 we are on the scrapheap but to penalise the disabled is nothing more than inconsiderate and uncontrollable bullying tactics.

I did five-and-a-half years in the Forces fighting for this country and was made a Lance Corporal.

I think I’ve done more than my fair share, even raising £11,663 for children’s charities by performing as Elvis Presley.

Now retired for the past 15 years, I would like a decent income. Being elderly and disabled isn’t totally our fault.
