SIR – I write with reference to two recent letters on workers’ rights by Mike Brazier (Worcester News, May 2) and Jim Price (Worcester News, May 30).

I share Mr Brazier’s view that current employment protection legislation does not really hinder employers wishing to recruit new staff.

The myth that employers need greater freedom to hire and fire is actually part of a campaign to undermine hardwon workers’ rights.

Mr Price is correct that in seeking to curtail these rights, the Government’s recently commissioned report by Adrian Beecroft cynically tries to shift the blame for our current economic woes onto ordinary hard-working people.

In reality, it was the wheeling and dealing of greedy bankers that brought the economy crashing down.

With the majority of cuts yet to come, it remains to be seen whether people will continue to tolerate the heartless views of people such as Mr Beecroft, as well as the unnecessary misery inflicted upon them by a government run by millionaires, for millionaires.
