Come on, Rooney, show us some pride

SIR – There is one thing I sincerely hope that Roy Hodgson can do for England and that is to get Wayne Rooney to sing our national anthem when the teams are lined out on the pitch.

Last Monday night the England and French teams were presented to the world.

The TV cameras panned along the England team while our national anthem was being played and we saw that the whole team were singing God Save the Queen.

Then the camera panned across to where Rooney was sitting... and there was nothing.

Now I know he was starting a two-match ban, but I have never seen him sing the national anthem before games.

Surely if you have pride in yourself, your country, and respect for your team-mates and fans alike, there can be no higher accolade than playing for your country, so why not sing the national anthem?

I totally agree, the National Anthem is not just about our Queen, it's about our Country, and although I am proudly English, about being British. So while Rooney is happy to earn his Millions playing sport in this Country, and must be English to qualify to play for England he should be required to represent His / Our Country and recognise that the National Anthem comes with the Job.
Our new England manager should show his worth and tell Rooney to act as a proud representative of England or don't play, Simple as that. He is an excellent player, but he is not bigger than England. SORT HIM Hodgson.
