SIR – While I am greatly in favour of Worcester’s new super library’ – the Hive – I am rather disappointed to find there exists a level of inequality between what is available to members of the public and University of Worcester students (and staff, I presume).
Some DVDs are only available to University of Worcester students despite being on the library online catalogue.
This is due – as explained by library staff – to the type of licence the DVD was originally purchased under.
In addition to this, many books have a blue label attached which ‘generously’ reads: “Members of the public are welcome to borrow one blue label item at a time... At peak times this item may be reserved for University of Worcester students”.
Surely at £60 million, the library’s stock should be freely and equally available to all and not the privileged few?
