SIR – On July 9 Harriett Baldwin made the following statement in Parliament about the proportional representation voting system; “However, it is clear that in many countries where PR has been used it is an extremely unsatisfactory system. It often ends up giving the balance of power to undesirable elements. I would have a significant concern about that.”
Ms Baldwin objects to a system whereby voters elect politicians that Harriett finds undesirable.
She needs reminding that at the last election only 36 per cent voted for Mr Cameron and his “elements”, the remaining two thirds found them undesirable.
The irony that it was first past the post that saddled her with Clegg seems to have gone completely over her head. In this diminishing democracy politicians will soon be doing away with inconvenient elections.
Oh! Sorry, they already subscribe to that with their continued support for the EU.
