SIR – The important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part.
But in taking part, no competitors would wish to win an event unless their opponents had at least tried to win. A typical spectator paid £75 hoping to see some world class badminton but some players engineered their matches to lose for tactical reasons.
I applaud the decision of the referee to disqualify the eight players accordingly.
