SIR – Neil Laurenson of the Greens is right to say that concern for the environment is not incompatible with a concern for the economy (Worcester News, July 30).

Unfortunately, this is a message which has not really got through to any of the Westminster parties.

Tories, Labour and the Lib Dems are all intent on flooding the economy with immigrants to provide cheap labour for big business and simply do not care about the damage done to the enviromnent by the housing required for the increased population.

Neil Laurenson objects to James Goad’s criticism of subsidising renewable energy at a time of economic crisis (Worcester News , July 16).

But as Mr Goad says, we risk seeing our own industries just shut down and relocate to other countries.

That would be a loss to us, and no gain to the planet.

I think they both make valid points. As Neil Laurenson says, we really can have a good economy which respects the environment.

But as James Goad says, a rush to wind turbines makes very little sense for the economy or the enviroment.

Wind turbines are not just a blot on the landscape.

They are also an unreliable energy source and there is evidence that they actually cause localised climate change.

So I am as opposed to wind turbines as I am to urban sprawl, unwanted factories and incinerators.

The Greens should be opposing mass immigration, the South Worcester Development Plan, the Bosch factory and the Hartlebury incinerator.

Doing so would show that they truly put the enviromnent ahead of short-term economic goals.
