SIR – I’m sorry to say that the idea of Sylvia Joyce’s receptacles strategically placed for cigarette stubs would not work.

I have seen similar objects outside offices – but they are not used in the main.

These litter bugs would not walk even a few paces to seek out what she suggest – the minute a cigarette is smoked, chocolate bar eaten, a bag of crisps consumed – the litter is dropped wherever they are.

It’s called instant disposal, that’s the name of the game.

Catch me if you can!

Walking again in Gheluvelt Park recently there was litter everywhere – under the new table-tennis tables – on the banks – in the pond.

It will never stop. It’s a case of no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything.

Perhaps a polite notice put up might help! It could state – risk a fine if you are caught dropping your litter.
