SIR – It is without doubt good to see a proposed scheme to get young people working, by insisting that they cannot get any benefits until they have done three months’ unpaid work.
There is no such thing as a free lunch, and in order to take out of the system – you must first put in.
It will install self-discipline, give people skills that employers wish to see on CVs, and references that young British people are good enough to be employed.
