SIR – It was interesting to note that two zebra crossings have been opened in St Peter’s Drive, Worcester, after several years of campaigning (Worcester News, August 28).
I hope that it does not take several years for my colleague Matthew Jenkins and I to persuade the council to improve safety on Bilford Road, particularly at the junction with Astwood Road.
As I wrote in a letter in October last year, local residents have told me that they do not even attempt to cross the road to get to the Costcutter because it is too risky.
Nine years ago, an elderly man was killed trying to cross the road to the shop.
I hope that it does not require another serious accident for something to finally be done to provide a safe way for pedestrians to cross Bilford Road.
