SIR – It is nice to see that Worcester City have made an impressive start to the new season and hopefully will continue where they left off in the last campaign.

But what is wrong with today’s players? Manager Carl Heeley says some of them are already tired having played three games in eight days (Worcester News , August 27).

How would they stand up to the rigours of tennis when players can face five-set matches with little rest in between?

Footballers now rely on substitutes as well and unlike in my day – I was a mere amateur – do not have to play with a leather ball.
