SIR – With regard to the elderly and the sick who obviously need care in the home.

When the council sends its representative to see what care they need the first thing he or she wants to know is how much money you have got in the bank.

If you’ve got nothing you get your care free – and rightly so – but if you’ve got money in the bank you get a hefty charge.

They put together a package of care they say you need. In fact, most of it you don’t need but they still charge.

It’s about time the council looked into this and stopped ripping off the people who have saved for their old age.

It seems the council is more interested in how much it can charge you and isn’t too worried about the care you receive.
