SIR – Re N Taylor’s letter (Worcester News , September 11) regarding trial by jury or on-the-spot fines.

If people didn’t drop their litter, did not park illegally, did not speed excessively, did not drop their fag ends, etc, there would be no need for any fines, whether by jury or on the spot.

On-the-spot fines save the rate-payer thousands of pounds and, anyway, one can appeal if necessary.
