ARMED police stopped a vehicle on the M5 but, after a search of the car, no arrests were made.

The Worcester News was informed that the uniformed officers armed with handguns appeared to be making an arrest at around 3pm on the northbound carriageway of the M5 near junction 6.

The witness, who did not wish to be named, said police in uniform and carrying guns looked as though they were making an arrest and the vehicle of interest appeared to be a Ford Fiesta.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "West Mercia Police conducted a stop on behalf of Gwent Police.

"A vehicle was stopped just before 3pm near Junction 6 of the M5.

"As this was conducted on behalf of Gwent Police, you'd need to go to them for more details."

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "At approximately 2.30pm we received intelligence on a vehicle travelling along the A40 in Monmouth.

"The vehicle was stopped near J6 of the M5 by West Mercia Officers and the vehicle was searched.

"Following an update from West Mercia no arrests were made."
