IT'S a glimpse of school life from more than 60 years ago.

But do recognise any of the pupils in this picture?

The class photo was taken in July 1953 at St Clement's School - former pupil Doug Kennard, now of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, dug out the old photo after seeing our recent nostalgia picture of the opening of the then-new St Clement's CE Primary School, in Henwick Road, in August 1976.

Mr Kennard remembers some of the names of his classmates including, standing, from left: Mr Maund, Doug Kennard, David Keys, John Bishop, Cynthia Court, Bruce Weaver, Melvyn Davis, Roger Knight, Margaret Price, John Crawford, ? Smith, Jacqueline Preece, Unknown, Pauline Weston and Mr Cash, the headmaster.

Middle row: Unknown, Sybil Roberts, Michael Bowkott, John Cole, ? Rhodes, Peter Robinson, David George.

Front row: ? Gough, Doreen Davies, David Richardson, Oliver Bullock, Unknown, Cristobel Tandy, June Burrows, Alan Williams.

Mr Kennard said: "I was a pupil for all my junior schooling at the original St Clements.

"It didn't strike me as Dickensian at the time but I suppose it was, though I remember the teaching staff with great affection."
