VICAR Jo Musson has been flying high to raise cash for her church.

Reverend Musson, vicar of Saint George’s Church, Worcester and St John Baptist, Claines, was strapped to the top wing of a 1940’s Boeing Stearman Biplane and flew over RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester on May 15.

The 59-year-old said: "It was the most beautiful day it could have been, blue sky and not a hint of any breeze.

"Loads of people from both my churches and also my family and friends came along to Rendcombe cheer and support which was fabulous.

"The friend who challenged me to do the wing walk in the first place, Rev Maureen Dew, was there too which made it very special.

"Maureen is undergoing chemo at the moment for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

"She said a prayer for me before I took off, and I didn't feel as terrified as I thought I would, just determined and focused."

"The plane flew all around the village of Rendcombe for about 10 minutes. It's very picturesque and people from other houses also waved to me.

"I believe the plane went up to 1,000 feet and flew at 80mph. The worst bit was how cold my ears became, and also I found that if I turned my head away from the direction we were flying in the pressure of the wind stopped me breathing so I just had to look straight ahead.

"After I landed and I managed to climb down again, I felt quite sick so I had to pass on the Prosecco and just have water."

Rev Musson, who is married to Adrian and has three daughters and five grandchildren, said the donations were still coming in, but they were closing in on her £10,000 target.

The sponsorship money raised will be going to the Claines 20/20 Vision project in order to raise funds to make Claines Church more visitor-friendly – adding toilets, making the church more accessible and installing facilities to allow better hospitality.

And 10 per cent of her sponsorship is also be given to the cancer charity, Bloodwise.

There is still time to donate at justgiving.com/fundraising/rev-jo.
