A HAIRDRESSER is urging other hair stylists in the county to join his venture and give free haircuts to foodbank users.
Carl Miller launched the service - A Snippet of Kindness - 14 months ago, and gives haircuts free of charge to the users of Worcester Foodbank, in Lowesmoor Wharf.
He has been offering a monthly service, but due to an ‘overwhelming’ amount of demand, he is hoping to expand to other foodbanks and to offer a fortnightly service to people struggling financially.
Mr Miller, who has been in the hairdressing industry for 32 years, said: “As we all know, a decent haircut makes you feel better, improves your confidence, increases employment potential and generally makes you feel better about yourself.
“However, when times are hard, looking after yourself is often at the bottom of a long list of other priorities and seen as an unnecessary luxury so easily forgotten.”
He added: “The response to A Snippet of Kindness has been very positive, and the demand has been overwhelming, so I am now planning to expand the service to other foodbanks across Worcestershire.”
A JustGiving page has been set up where donations will be spent on sterilising equipment, disposable gowns and combs, along with other necessary kit for the team to work with.
Mr Miller, aged 50, hope to raise £750 to buy tools and equipment for the project – so far, £300 has been raised.

He added: “The intention with the raised funds is to purchase equipment that will remain at the pop-up salons within the centres making it easier to encourage other hairdressers to give up their time to help those who need it most.
“If you can afford to give a little, your funds, in association with the help and support from the amazing Worcester Foodbank will make a real difference.
“I’m also extremely interested in hearing from any local hairdressers who can offer their time to help me expand this much needed service.”
Freelancer Mr Miller, who began hairdressing at the age of 16, manages his own business - Carl Miller Hairdressing.
