A WOMAN is said to have struck people with a rolling pin before she was injured during a bloody brawl in Worcester sparked by alleged 'racist' remarks.

We have already reported how Warndon Youth and Community Centre in Shap Drive, Warndon was taped off by West Mercia Police yesterday.

Witnesses have described how an initial fight took place in Hawkshead Court, not far from the community centre, and that racist abuse was directed at young men with their female friends.

How we reported the original story

Tensions are said to have calmed down before flaring up again outside the community centre where the main incident happened.

George Davidge who lives in Hawkshead Court said one man from the court was arrested and another man subjected to racist abuse was also arrested.

However, West Mercia Police officers declined to give details at the scene yesterday and have so far not released any details of the incident to the Worcester News. They are looking into the enquiry and we hope to have a response soon.

The 75-year-old said the young woman and her friends left Hawkshead Court after the initial incident at around 6pm which he described as a 'brawl'.

When the young woman and her friends returned there was a further fight at around 7.15pm near the sign for the community centre, the area that was taped off by police.

He said: "There was lots of blood there. The wife of the man who was arrested is in hospital. At one stage there were eight police cars here, police vans and an ambulance. As far as we know only one person was taken to hospital. It was like something from the 1950s. I was shocked. This is such a quiet court. Usually you can hear a pin drop in the evening. There was masses of shouting."

The pensioner described how a young woman was assaulted and her grandmother was shaking after the incident took place.

The mother of the young woman, who declined to be named, confirmed her daughter had been punched in the face by a man and knocked to the ground. She had also injured her finger.

She described how another woman from Hawkshead Court had been armed. "She hit lads with a rolling pin," she said.

Describing what happened to her daughter, she said: "I'm livid."

The young woman's grandmother: "My granddaughter was punched. I'm disgusted and frightened living here. I saw the woman with the rolling pin hitting people on bikes. That happened near the community centre."

She believes the woman who was hurt fell and hit her head.
