RETAIL giant Marks and Spencer (M&S) has not confirmed if any of the planned 7,000 jobs being cut nationally will be at the city store.

The group’s latest cull follows 950 job losses announced just last month across store management and head office roles.

M&S said the bulk of the cuts would be made across its stores, hitting about 12 per cent of its 60,000 shop-based staff.

It is unclear if there will be cuts at the High Street branch in Worcester, as a reporter contacted M&S and a spokesman said they had only made a national announcement, with no breakdown of which stores or region.

The announcement came after the chain revealed total sales in its clothing and home arm plunged 29.9 per cent in the last eight weeks, with store sales tumbling 47.9 per cent and online sales surging 39.2 per cent. It said sales declines were improving but it was “clear that there has been a material shift in trade”.
