A PARKING row turned ugly when a man grabbed a hammer and made death threats, a court was told.

Hassan Mohammed appeared before magistrates in Worcester where he pleaded not guilty to three offences following an incident in Teme Road, Worcester.

The 28-year-old of Winchcombe Drive, Warndon, Worcester denied possession of an offensive weapon, assault by beating and a section four public order offence, all of which are alleged to have occurred on June 23 last year.

Karen Wright, prosecuting, said: "There’s an issue with regard to parking a car and an argument between people in the street and it’s said that the defendant went to get the hammer out of a black Mercedes vehicle, pulled it out of the boot and said ‘I’m going to kill you!’”

However, Mohammed denies making the death threat and his representative in court, Sam Lamsdale, said he would claim he acted in self-defence.

The details of the public order offence state that Mohammed used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of, or to provoke, unlawful violence.

The threats are alleged to have been directed at Alberto Braz.

Mrs Wright, prosecuting, said the case was suitable for summary trial and was ‘a very straightforward case’.

Magistrates accepted jurisdiction for the case.The trial was set down for April 16 at Redditch Magistrates Court.

In a separate case heard the same day at Worcester, Jamie McCollum denied attempted burglary with intent to steal at Francis of Malvern store on January 2 this year.

The trial is due to take place at Worcester Magistrates Court on April 26 this year with a morning listing. McCollum, 37, of Coronation Road, Malvern, was granted unconditional bail to attend that hearing. Meanwhile, Covid-19 continues to cause disruption at the courts.

Reece Williams-Brown was due to appear at Worcester Magistrates Court over videolink from a Young Offender Institution but the hearing could not go ahead because of a coronavirus outbreak there. The 21-year-old faces a single charge of conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal with two others at addresses in Golden Cross Lane in Catshill, Deansway in Bromsgrove, Red Lion Court in Redditch. Damson Close in Telford, Barberry Close in Telford and Cedar Close in Droitwich. A new videolink hearing was arranged for February 22 at Worcester.
