POLICE in Worcester are searching the River Severn for a body as part of an ongoing murder investigation.

  • Police have confirmed they have found the body of a woman in her 20s in the River Severn during searches last night
  • A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
  • West Mercia Police currently have cordons in place at three locations in Worcester including the Diglis footbridge, Waterworks Road and Cheviot Close as part of the investigation.
  • Forensic experts were investigating what appeared to be blood spatters found in a trail running down the small cul de sac just off Tolladine Road yesterday.
  • Police tape was also across a home in Waterworks Road which police confirmed was linked with the other two scenes yesterday.

Here is the latest statement from West Mercia Police: "We currently have cordons in place at three locations in Worcester including the Diglis footbridge, Waterworks Road and Cheviot Close as part of an investigation into a serious incident.

"As part of the investigation we are working closely with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police Specialist Search team who will be searching the River Severn in the Diglis area.

"Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Dean Jones, said: A 24- year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody. We believe this to be an isolated incident.”
