BLUE teddies have been placed in the display window of an estate agent as a poignant tribute after the unexplained death of a nine-year-old boy in Droitwich as a community unites in grief.

Nicol & Co Estate agents filled their display window in Droitwich with blue teddies in memory of Alfie Scott who died in unexplained circumstances at a house in Copcut, Droitwich earlier this week.

The managing director of the company, 36-year-old Matt Nicol, said similar displays had also been arranged at the other officers in Worcester and Malvern as part of the gesture.

Blue teddies and hearts have appeared across the town as people come together in mourning and Mr Nicol wanted to make use of the space in his displays to show solidarity with all those grieving for the loss of the boy who was in the same school year as his son and attended the same school.

The father-of-two, whose son goes to the same school as Alfie - Witton Middle School - and is the same age, said he saw that people were putting blue teddies and hearts in their windows and decided to make use of the display window for the touching tribute.

He said: "I think as a community we're a bit rocked by it. We just feel for him and it's nice everyone in the community is thinking of him."

Police investigating the unexplained death of a nine year-old boy in Vashon Drive, Copcut, Droitwich released a man and woman on bail last night.

A 33 year-old woman was arrested for suspected child neglect and a 39 year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder. Both have been bailed until March 19.

The boy died on Thursday, February 18, and the cause of his death is not yet known.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We are continuing to treat this as an unexplained death and are supporting the victim’s family at this time and would ask they are given privacy during this tragic event."

Flowers and tributes have been left for the boy, who has been named locally as Alfie Scott.

Police and two air ambulances rushed to the semi-detached home in Vashon Drive, Copcut, at around 3pm on Thursday afternoon.

The boy was found in a critical condition and was flown to hospital but, sadly, did not survive.
