A MAN was arrested for assault after a heavy police presence in a city street for several hours.

A 28-year-old remains in police custody this morning after a large police presence was seen in St Wulstan's Crescent, off Wyld's Lane.

Officers were called to an address to reports of an assault at about 3pm on Monday (January 17). 

They became concerned for the welfare of the man while at the property and remained in the road for several hours.

Later that evening, the ambulance service arrived at the home to reports of a medical emergency.

A male patient refused to be seen by paramedics and was discharged at the scene.

Worcester News:

A large number of police cars and police vans as well as an ambulance were at the address until 1am according to an eyewitness.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Around 3pm yesterday (Monday, January 17) officers received a report of an assault in Worcester.

"Following enquiries, officers attended a property in St Wulstan’s Crescent.

"While at the address officers became concerned for the welfare of a man.

"After several hours a 28-year-old man from Worcester was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He remains in custody."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a property on St Wulstans Crescent at 6.42pm last night.

"One ambulance, a paramedic and a HART paramedic attended the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered one male patient.

"However, the patient did not wish to be assessed and was discharged at the scene."
