A 'TERRIFIED' witness has described seeing the victim set upon with bats and machetes before a man armed with a blade swung it through the air while asking 'do you think you're a boxer?'

The witness, who cannot be identified, was one of the men who helped attack victim Owais Saleem get to hospital following the attack in Wyld's Lane, Worcester after seeing him being attacked as he lay on the ground.

Usman Multani, 27, of Westminster Road, Ronkswood, Kaasim Multani, 23, also of Westminster Road and Shahenul Alam, 32, of Ivor Road, Sparkhill, deny attempted murder, violent disorder and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. The trial is still running at Worcester Crown Court with the prosecution case yet to finish.

We have previously reported how Mr Saleem suffered a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain following the attack at around 1am in Wyld's Lane, Worcester on November 24, 2019.

Giving evidence behind a screen on Tuesday, the man told the jury he heard loud revs behind him and saw a black Volkswagen Golf and a white Mercedes.

He referred to the cars being driven 'recklessly over the bumps' on the road.

At that stage he said he did not recognise anyone in the car but did see 'half' of a passenger's face because he was wearing a black mask.

After the Golf stopped he described seeing the front passenger side of the car open. "I saw a machete come out" he said.

The witness said the blade was black and curved and that he began running 'pretty fast' towards Midland Road before turning and looking back as he heard 'loud shouting'.

"I could see them swinging bats and machetes" he said.

Asked by the prosecutor, Peter Glenser QC, to clarify if there was more than one machete the witness said he did not know. He said he saw 'four to five people' involved in the attack upon a man on the floor while the driver of the Golf remained inside. The attack lasted around 10 to 15 seconds. He moved 'a little bit closer' to the scene, describing a white Mercedes behind the Golf.

Asked if he knew the driver, he replied: "The driver was Omar Idris. I made eye contact with him."

The witness told the jury that Mr Idris, who is not on trial for the attack, was also known as Kyle Bridger. He said Mr Idris looked away. There were three people in the Golf, he said.

He told a jury he recognised the man with the machete as Isti Hussain, again not on trial for the alleged offences.

"He said 'do you think you're a boxer?'" said the witness.

"What did he do with the machete?" asked Mr Glenser.

The witness replied: "He swung it twice."

Mr Glenser asked: "How did that make you feel?"

The witness answered: "Terrified and scared. I took three steps back."

He said he recognised Luke Bridger, also known as Saj Idris, as a back seat passenger in the Golf.

The trial continues.
