A MAN who installs CCTV said car crime is at an all-time high in Worcester as he became the latest victim of people trying doors.

Rikki Sankey, of Lansdowne Crescent Lane, Rainbow Hill,  was alerted via his home CCTV system of a would-be thief looking through his car in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He said: "Car crime is at an all time high. It is a constant problem, particularly in the WR3 area and also in Kempsey and Warndon."

The video shows a man on a bike, stopping on Mr Sankey's drive, and using torchlight to look through the windows of a vehicle.

After realising there was nothing able to steal, he can be seen retrieving his bike, which was leant against the van that was also parked on the drive, and leaving.

Mr Sankey is a security installer by profession and owns his own business, called RS Protech Worcester.

He said: "I install home CCTV for a living so I know firsthand just how important it is to have this technology set up.

"I had a notification come through on my phone at 12.10am this morning, which my wife heard.

"I have an intrusion alarm installed which alerts me to any suspicious activity.

"Thankfully the guy did not break into the cars.

"I always make sure that anything valuable is never kept in the vehicles overnight for this exact reason.

"I have had a lot of people, especially in the WR3 postcode area of Worcester such as Northwick and Claines, on a regular basis saying they have had similar incidents to this.

"CCTV is always a big outlay  but this footage shows how important it can be."

The incident has yet to be reported to the police, with Mr Sankey saying that the police are "rarely interested".

"I cannot remember the last time I saw any police car, day or night, in our area on patrol. They are rarely ever interested, it certainly needs addressing."

The most recent CCTV footage follows a trend of reports throughout Worcester.

Two men were recently seen acknowledging a CCTV camera, yet continuing to look through a car's contents on Springfield Road in Worcester.

West Mercia Police were unavailable for comment.
