AS summer is now upon us, getting out on a bike and exploring some of the best routes around Worcester is a must.

These five routes are a must-try for anyone looking to get into cycling or looking for a new route.

Broadway Hallow Loop

This route starts off at the University's St John's Campus, taking you past the Oldbury Wood and the Elgar Birthplace Museum.

There are two options, including a 7.5mile or 14-mile route.

Worcester City Circular Loop

The city circular loop is one of the best ways to see Worcester and uses the city's existing cycle lane network. 

Starting near Newtown Road, the route will take you on a lovely route around Worcester, on a ride that lasts about 9 miles.

Northwick Ladywood Loop

This route offers two different options for experienced and inexperienced cyclists.

Starting from the Pump House Environment Centre in Gheluvelt Park, this route takes you through Northwick and Ladywood on either a 6.5 mile or 10.5-mile route.

Worcester to Droitwich

Worcester and Droitwich are connected by a great cycling route, with two different options.

You can either use National Route 45, which follows some quiet lanes and the towpath of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, or Route 46 which provides an on-road alternative to the western side.

Both routes are just under 10 miles and are mainly flat.

Kempsey Norton Loop

This route is one of the most popular in the Worcester area and starts from Worcester Woods Countryside Centre.

There are two different options, which consist of an 8.5 mile or 13.5 mile route.

With all the benefits of outdoor physical activity, regular cycling can reduce the risk of a number of serious illnesses such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke.

It can also boost your mood, improving the symptoms of some mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. 

Cycling is a low-impact exercise, meaning it's easier on your joints compared to high-impact aerobic activities like running.
