ARMED police responding to reports of someone with a gun wandering around an estate has prompted calls for more CCTV cameras.

Firearms officers were seen searching Tolladine after someone said they saw a person carrying a gun in Conway.

An eyewitness in the area claimed they saw as many as 30 officers, some armed, swarming the road in the early hours of the morning.

Nobody was arrested and enquiries are ongoing after the incident on Sunday evening at 11.30pm.

Cllr Basharat Ali, city councillor for Nunnery ward, said there has been an escalation of crime in the area and is calling for CCTV cameras to be installed in Tolladine.

Cllr Ali happened to walk past the officers searching for the person with a gun.

He said: " I was there at the time walking to Teme Road at around midnight and saw all of the police cars.

"It is incredibly concerning as I live just a few doors away from Conway, and residents in the area should not have to worry about dangers like this.

"I have been calling for CCTV to be installed on roads like Conway because Tolladine just does not have enough cameras.

"There have been car break ins, burglaries and damage to taxis in the area which CCTV could have certainly helped police.

"Something needs to change."

Police carried out searches in the area but did not find the person.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Around 11:30pm last night (Sunday 19 June) officers received a report of a person seen with a firearm on Conway, off Tolladine Road in Worcester.
