THE new headteacher at a prestigious Worcester school must not be 'pompous' or 'arrogant' says a job advert.

King's School published the ad as part of its search for a new headteacher at King's Hawford, based in Hawkford Lock Lane.

The school is looking for a new head after it was revealed the previous incumbent, Jennie Phillips, will leave after just over a year in post.

We have previously reported how she is departing at the end of this term.

Mrs Phillips, who took up the post last April, is the first woman in the Foundation's 500-year history to be appointed to that position.

A job advert has previously listed some of the skills required for the position - and also some of the traits school leaders consider undesirable.

One line of the advert reads: "We want a leader who will be kind to the community, who isn’t pompous or arrogant, and who loves the company of people."

King's declined to comment on the wording of the job advertisement.

We understand that the recruitment is underway and that a headteacher has yet to be appointed.

Interested candidates were invited to contact Gareth Doodes, the Foundation Headmaster, by email, to arrange a confidential discussion during the week beginning Monday, June 6.

The advert reads: "The King’s School, Worcester Foundation is searching for an innovative and ambitious Head to lead King’s Hawford at an exciting stage of its journey. We want a leader who is committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning, encouraging pupils to be curious, caring, and confident.

"King’s Hawford has all the hallmarks of a standalone rural Prep School of 220 pupils, with the security of being part of a large Foundation of 1400 pupils.

"We are looking for a leader with lots of ideas, energy, ambition, and enthusiasm, someone who’ll enjoy implementing a Foundation wide strategy. We would like a colleague who recognises the need for strong, directional leadership, who is ambitious to raise and sustain academic standards, who will enjoy being part of a team understanding that despite the individual characteristics, our three Schools are one Foundation."

The successful candidate will be a current head, deputy or similar, with high quality educational and leadership experience, the ad says.
