A TODDLER narrowly missed being hit with a pellet when a gunman opened fire on cars during 'wild west' drive-by shootings.

Colin Hardy called the behaviour 'sickening' after a bullet hole was left in his back window and he found another car carrying a toddler was also targetted on the A449 towards Worcester.

It comes as more people have come forward to say their cars were shot at during a half an hour window at multiple locations in Worcester

A number of vehicles were shot with some type of gun in Worcester on Monday afternoon between 4.30pm and 5pm on the M5, A449 between Ombersley and Claines and at Whittington.

When he pulled over, father-of-two Mr Hardy discovered one of the other victims was a couple with a young child, the toddler sat directly behind the impact point.

 

The 33-year-old from Worcester said he noticed a BMW behind him as he was about to join the dual carriageway.

"He held back, and allowed me to join in front of him.

"I heard a sudden, loud pop noise from the rear of my van and noticed one of the rear windows on the tailgate doors had some kind of damage, just as the white BMW overtook me. 

"I pulled over at the next layby to discover that it had been shattered with this bullet hole in the middle.

"When I rejoined the carriageway I saw another car, a Red Nissan X-Trail, in the next layby also with their rear window damaged."

He pulled over at the Chatley junction and called police. 

He added: "The armed police showed up in an unmarked BMW X5. They checked over the damage, and tried to find any signs of the bullet."

"There was a couple with a young toddler in a red car who said they were in the layby sorting out their daughter when their rear window made a loud pop and smashed and the lady swore she saw a white BMW drive past as it happened," he said.

"It was a frightening experience, the sound of the impact was loud enough to be heard over the wind rustling through the van as I was at speed.

"I'm just disgusted that people find it completely acceptable, to just go out on a whim and happily destroy people's property and endanger their lives. 

"It's very sickening behaviour."

West Mercia Police received 'a number of reports of criminal damage on roads around Worcester'.

A police spokesman said: "The incidents are being linked and it’s thought those responsible for the damage were in a white BMW 3 series, officers are carrying out enquiries to locate the vehicle."
