Another Worcestershire school has confirmed it will be closed next Monday and Tuesday because of the hot weather.

The Chase in Malvern has said all trips scheduled to take place on those days will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Mike Fieldhouse said: “We do not believe that we are able to keep every child safe in school with these high temperatures forecast.

“Most of the school does not have air conditioning and will only become hotter as the ambient heat increases over these two days. We are also concerned about the children’s safety at 3pm when travelling home from school which will be when the temperatures are at their peak.

Teachers will work from home in heatwave

“We are therefore going to close the school on Monday and Tuesday for all students and staff. As it is enrichment week and the normal school timetable has finished, we do not expect the students to complete any work whilst at home, though there will be some material on Google Classroom for Year 10 students as part of their GCSE studies. Staff will work from home and use this time to help prepare for the forthcoming year.

“School will be open on Wednesday with all the various enrichment activities taking place as planned, including the Y9 trip to Weston. The school’s annual Hills Walk will also take place as planned on Thursday, with the school closing for the summer holiday after this event.

“We are hugely disappointed to have been forced to make these changes, but very much hope that parents will understand that the decisions taken are in response to an unprecedented situation.”
