A SMOKING bollard on a busy Warndon road was due to a fault on an illuminated bollard.
Firefighters had to cut the wiring after the 'keep left' bollard was spotted smoking in Cranham Drive, Warndon.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the road along with Western Power Distribution and Worcestershire Couty Council yesterday evening.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there was a fault on an illuminated ‘keep left’ bollard, which was repaired by the electrical contractor."
Despite the need to cut the wiring, no customer connectivity was apparently affected in the area.
A WPD spokesperson said: "‘WPD was called to a smoking bollard at Cranham Drive at 9.23pm on Tuesday evening (16 August) by the fire service.
"We made the bollard safe by cutting the electricity connection. No customers were affected.’"
