A girl suffering from long-Covid who struggles to walk for over 20 minutes at once has managed to complete a marathon in her wheelchair.

Libby Parker, 14, was supported by her friends, family and local athletes who pushed her the distance of a marathon around Worcester.

She fell ill weeks after being diagnosed with Covid on August 1, 2021.

One year on she has been left with ongoing difficulties from the debilitating condition.

The year 10 RGS pupil from Bewdley has raised £5,436 so far for Long Covid Kids after undertaking the marathon which she coined "The Big Push".

Lucia Weaver completed the entire walk alongside her close friend. She said: “It was really tough at times, I wasn’t sure I would be able to complete it at points.

"It’s really amazing to be raising money for something so close to our heart.

"It’s been hard watching my friend go through this over the last year, but to see her out there today, with so much support, it’s been really special to see.”

At the finish line, Libby Parker's mum, Helen Parker, said: “Today was really amazing.

"Twenty-three people walking through the centre of Worcester, with people joining us in and out of the day.

"Although we’ve now hit the target, please do continue to donate.”

Mrs Parker added: "Libby was asymptomatic at first, we only knew that she had Covid because we did a lateral flow test and then a PCR.

"Three weeks later she started developing symptoms such as fatigue, nausea and reduced cognitive function.

"Now, she can only attend school for around three hours a week because physically, she just can't do it.

"Long-Covid is the unknown pandemic that is still to come.

"We still don't know how it will affect the population as a whole.

"Libby is one of many people who this will be affecting."

Libby was pushed by double Paralympian Rebecca Redfern and other big names including English cricketers Maia Bouchier and Thea Brookes, British journalist Helen Lewis and lead vocalist of the rock band Royal Tusk, Daniel Carriere.
