A MAN has been arrested for drink driving after a car crashed and caught fire.

We have previously reported how a car erupted into flames after a crash on the A449 at Powick, near Worcester, on Sunday (February 19).

Police were called to the incident as well as firefighters who made the scene safe.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called at 3.40am on Sunday morning to a report of a damaged vehicle in a layby on the A449 near the Powick roundabout.

"A man was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving."

A fire service spokesperson said: “Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called out at 3.55am on Sunday morning to make a vehicle safe after a road traffic collision.

“One crew from Worcester Fire Station went to the A449 Malvern Road, Powick, near the Powick Roundabout.

“A small fire involving a car, which had previously been in a road traffic collision, was out on arrival.

“The crew checked the car with a thermal image camera and made it safe with small tools.

“The incident was left with the police for vehicle recovery and was closed by HWFRS at 4.36am.”
