A POP-UP tip has been welcomed by people in Warndon as part of an ongoing drive to clean up the estate and reduce fly-tipping.

The mobile tip arrived at Rodborough Close in Warndon, Worcester, on Saturday on a trial basis.

Labour's Wardon city councillor, Cllr Jill Desayrah, who has campaigned for the trial came along to the first mobile tip at the car park in Rodborough Close, Warndon with her husband Sunil.

Cllr Desayrah has previously raised the issue of fly-tipping and rat infestations on the estate and expressed her hope that people would make use of the 'use it or lose it' service which is returning to another part of the city next month.

Alex Rudzinski, 43, shift manager for Neos Superform in Blackpole, which makes aluminium parts for specialist cars, was one of those to make use of the service, helped by his son Jacob, aged 10.

Mr Rudzinski said: “We are so pleased to see that something has finally been done about waste management. It’s the first time in ten years that we don’t feel that Warndon has been forgotten.”

Jacob said: “I enjoyed tipping the wood into the big truck.”

Cllr Desayrah said in a previous statement: "I hope that many people will find these pop-up tips useful.

"They are here on a trial basis, but I'd love them to become a regular facility in Warndon."

People had the opportunity to bring along items they could carry such as clothes and small items of wood and carpet.

Her hope is the move can restore pride in the community, making Warndon a nice place for people, rather than scurrying rodents, to inhabit.

She asked Worcester City Council to bring the tip to residents so they do not have to go to the tip, especially as many may struggle to afford the costs.

Cllr Desayrah has reported several instances of fly-tipping across her ward to various bodies including Platform Housing Group and Citizen.

In the meantime, she is keep to promote the second trial in Goldsmith Road near Wheelwright Close on Saturday, April 8 after she reported fly-tipped rubbish continued to be dumped in various parts of Warndon earlier this year.

Cllr Desayrah said at the time: "Fly-tipping in certain parts of Warndon is a problem. Some of this comes from outside the area, as unscrupulous trades people dump their waste illegally alongside other tipped rubbish."
