A BMW driver has been hit with a fine of more than £500 and will serve a lengthy driving ban after being caught drink driving in Worcester.

Catalin Dinca, of Conway, Worcester, was sentenced after admitting drink driving when the 31-year-old appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Aleigha Adams, prosecuting, said Dinca was observed by police at 8.30pm on February 26 crossing the centre line of Tolladine Road, Worcester.

Police stopped Dinca before he failed a roadside breathlyser test.

At the police station he gave an evidential sample of 50mcg in 100ml of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg.

Dinca, who had no previous convictions, apologised to magistrates and asked not to receive a ban before it was explained to him drink drivers receive a mandatory disqualification.

Elaine Bell, chairman of the magistrates bench, told Dinca he would be banned from driving for a year.
