TWO military planes have been spotted flying over Worcester this evening.

The planes - Lockheed C-130J Hercules from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire - were seen circling the city at around 7.30pm.

RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire is the largest RAF Station with approximately 5,800 Service Personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civilian staff.

The Station is home to the RAF's Strategic and Tactical Air Transport (AT) and Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) forces, as well as host to many lodger and reserve units.

The C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medevac, and cargo transport aircraft.

The aircraft is also used in other roles, including as a gunship (AC-130), for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refuelling, maritime patrol, and aerial firefighting. It is now the main tactical airlifter for many military forces worldwide.
