The Worcester primary schools where it is hardest to get a place have been revealed.

Families across Worcestershire found out last week which school their children will be starting at in September.

The county council says 93% per cent of pupils will be heading to their first-choice school and that 98 per cent received an offer from one of their top three choices.

But not all families are lucky enough to get their choice of primary school - with distance from the school being the most common reason for refusal.

‘Allocation day’ data from the county council shows the number of on-time applicants refused a place at each school.

Of primary schools in Worcester, Lyppard Grange saw the most applicants refused at 26.

Refusal numbers were also in double figures at Whittington, Nunnery Wood and Claines primary schools, at 18, 12 and 15 respectively.

North Worcester, Northwick Manor, Pitmaston, Red Hill, St Clements and Stanley Road are also oversubscribed, which is when a school enrols more pupils than its reported number of available places.

Two schools in the Droitwich area are classed as oversubscribed - St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Sytchampton Endowed Primary School.

Sarah Wilkins, director for education at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We know what a significant milestone starting a new school is, and it is great to see that so many children in Worcestershire will be starting at their preferred school this autumn.”

What to do if your child doesn’t have a place at your preferred school

If your child hasn’t been awarded a place at your preferred school, you can submit an appeal. These should be made to the School Admissions Team at Worcestershire County Council.

You can find more information by going to www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions and downloading the Appeals Information Document.

The county council received 6,042 primary school applications, and 2,407 middle school applications this year, with 99% of them made via its website.

It said everyone who made an application for a primary school, first school or middle school place received an offer.
