A MAN told he only had months to live has achieved his dream of accompanying his granddaughter down the aisle on her wedding day.

John Adams, from Droitwich Spa, is known as 'MND Warrior' and 'Sir John' after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. He was told he had a maximum of 18 months left to live in 2017.

But since his diagnosis six years ago he has become a well-known member of the MND community thanks to his fundraising efforts.

And ever since Mr Adams's granddaughter, Emily Lovell, got engaged about two years ago, it has been his dream to accompany her down the aisle.

Wedding guests were left in tears as the pair made their way down the aisle at Birtsmorton Court in Malvern on June 3 on Emily's big day.

Helen Millward, John's daughter, said: "When she got engaged, the first person she told was her grandad.

"She asked him to give her away about two years ago.

"He didn't think he would make it but he fought through everything.

"Everybody was in tears, to be honest.

"She chose a beautiful day, and the sun was shining.

"He was in absolute bits, I never thought we would see that moment.

"It was a very emotional day.

"While Emily was growing up, I was at work during the summer holidays so she spent a lot of her time with her him.

"So he is a huge part of her life.

"I saw his reaction, he can't put his hands together properly but he was still clapping.

"It is a moment, I will remember for the rest of my life.

"It made Emily's day extra special."

Mr Adams' charity efforts have caught the attention of many people and he received 600 birthday cards from across the world last month.

Mrs Millward and Mr Adams were emotional as they read the copious amounts of birthday cards that were sent, including from as far away as New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
