ARMED police have seized weapons after raiding a home in Worcester this morning.

Officers discovered an axe, a metal bar and a machete in a lounge at the home in Liverpool Road, Ronkswood.

The weapons were discovered after armed police went to the road at around 10am this morning.

Officers cordoned off the road and directed traffic away while multiple police officers arrived on the scene. A section of Liverpool Road was closed at both ends while the incident was underway.

Police say they have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs and a 21-year-old woman fron Luton was also arrested in connection to an outstanding warrant for minor traffic offences from Westminster Magistrates Court.

Officers with firearms were seen outside the street and evidence was later removed from the scene and placed inside the boot of a police car.

DI Dave Knight of Proactive CID said officers from the newly formed Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team (NCFT) were first on the scene.

Officers responded to reports of disorder at an address in Liverpool Road.

DI Knight said: "Armed officers were used to search the property and two people were arrested at that address. Due to perceived threats, a search was carried out with armed officers who met no resistance."

He added: "This is a good example of different police units working together with the common purpose of keeping the public safe."

A small quantity of cannabis was also seized. During the incident at 9.16pm several people could not return to their homes. The NCFT, set up at the start of this month, was set up to target areas of local concern.

The road was reopened at around 11.30am.
