A BURGLAR sneaked into an exclusive city home and used a stolen bank card to treat himself to beer and a kebab.

Joshua Philpott carried out the burglary in St George's Square in Barbourne, Worcester, a beautiful square known for its large and elegant Georgian homes.

During the burglary overnight on June 28 and 29, he stole a wallet, cash cards, iPads, an iMac, Bluetooth speakers and car keys (though not the car).

Philpott had no contact with the owner inside the house. It was described by investigating officers as a 'sneak in' burglary. Occupiers did not notice they had been burgled until the following morning.

Officers identified that he was using the card at the garage in Castle Street, near the police station.

The 27-year-old of no fixed abode has since pleaded guilty to the burglary and has been remanded in custody. He is due to be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on July 31 and now faces a potential immediate jail sentence.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said Philpott was arrested at a nearby guesthouse in Barbourne and all the stolen property was recovered.

DS Grant Fraser of South Worcestershire Proactive CID said: "The early identification of the suspect within hours of the offence being committed meant investigating officers were able to act swiftly to secure the suspect and recover all the stolen goods."

He further admitted three fraud by false representation offences when he used the stolen cards to buy himself 'alcohol and a kebab', officers said.

DI Dave Knight of Proactive CID, based at Worcester Police Station, stressed how seriously house burglaries are taken by West Mercia Police.

He also said that the residential burglary figures include break-ins at garden sheds and other outbuildings rather than homes themselves.

DI Knight said: "We have a dedicated team of detectives purely looking to investigate home burglaries and lock up burglars."

We reported last January how Philpott stole a student’s bike while he had a McDonald’s then went on a shoplifting spree, taking designer goods including a Hugo Boss tracksuit.

Joshua Philpott was jailed after he targeted several shops in Worcester including JD Sports, House of Fraser, TK Maxx, the Co-op and Marks and Spencer during a shoplifting spree for designer goods and booze.
