A 29-year-old wanted man has been arrested following a chase through Worcester city centre.

Bobby Smith was arrested at noon yesterday following a chase through the city centre which ended at Diglis Basin.

Smith was spotted by a new police team - the Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team - set up to tackle those crimes that matter most to the community.

Smith was wanted by magistrates in Newport on suspicion of driving while disqualified. The chase began in The Cross and the suspect also headed through the Crowngate Shopping Centre.

Smith, now of Mount Pleasant, Redditch, was detained for the warrant, issued for failing to attend court for the driving while disqualified offence.

He is expected to appear before magistrates.
