A SURPRISE cannabis grow has been found in a terraced house in the city after police made the unexpected discovery while officers investigated an 'unrelated incident'.

Officers attended the terraced house in Worcester for another matter and discovered a cannabis grow inside, quickly sealing off the address as a crime scene.

The Wyld's Lane cannabis grow was found on Friday morning as police decided to tape off the city home and carry out a search.

At one stage three police vehicles, including a crime scene investigation unit, were present at the scene while drivers on the main road slowed down for a better look.

One curious motorist stopped in the road to ask officers what was going on.

When he was told of the cannabis grow he said he wished he had known about it sooner before laughing and accelerating away.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers will remain at the scene whilst they clean up the plants and equipment. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

Throughout the morning officers and workers from the National Grid could be seen coming and going from the property as the electricity supply had to be disconnected.

Police taped off the doorway and an alleyway at the side of the property to create a cordon and they also spoke with a neighbour so they could gain access to the next-door property as part of their ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, scenes of crime officers (SOCOs) later arrived as part of a Crime Scene Investigation unit, donning forensic gloves before they entered the house.

One SOCO took several pictures inside and outside the property and also brought forensic tools into the address. At one stage he emerged carrying a can of Carling as evidence was seized for analysis.

The Worcester News understands nobody was at the property at the time officers arrived.

Evidence bags for cash were also requested as officers searched the home.
