THE owners of the Slug and Lettuce chain have explained why the pub is currently closed.

We reported earlier this week that mystery had surrounded why the pub in The Cross had been closed to pub-goers since the end of October.

In a new statement from Stonegate Group a spokesperson said: "Slug & Lettuce is currently closed whilst essential works are carried out.

"We aim to reopen the site as soon as possible."

The spokesperson added that punters should keep an eye on the bar’s social media for further updates.

In a post, on October 26, the chain's Facebook site said: "Please note, we are closed until further notice.

"We can't wait to make good times again soon."

No further explanation was given about the closure on that post despite some customers in the comments asking for more details.
