Worcester's independent retail scene has a new addition as a new hair salon opens its doors.

Hair Studio Yolanda opened its doors in The Hopmarket courtyard on Tuesday (November 21).

The new salon offers a variety of hair and beauty treatments, including balayage, babylights, and bridal hair, lashlifts, lash tinting, eyebrow lamination and waxing.

Now residing in Worcester with her family, Maria Yolanda Pailamilla, who originally hails from Chile, moved to the UK in 2014, bringing with her experience of hairdressing since 2006.

She said: "I am thrilled to have opened a hair salon in The Hopmarket; it has always been my dream.

"I chose The Hopmarket because I love the area and the history of the building."

Bill Simpson, chairman of The Hopmarket Charitable Trust, said: "We would like to welcome Yolanda to The Hopmarket.

"Supporting independent businesses is more critical than ever and we are sure that her hair salon will fit in with other similar businesses in the courtyard.

"We wish her all the best in her new venture."

The Hopmarket, which houses multiple independent retailers, traces back to 1731 when it was a trading spot for hops.

The site was later replaced in the early 1900s with the current building, which has since transitioned from a hotel and bank into the thriving shopping courtyard it is today.

Closing her statement, Mrs Pailamilla said: "My aim is to establish and eventually grow my business.

"Each year I take a new course to develop my skills and expertise; infact last year I went to Spain to train with celebrity stylists Gabriel Samra and Melissa Schlukebier which was such an honour.

"My aspiration is to ensure my clients can find everything in one place and enjoy every single second they spend in the salon."

Mrs Pailamilla has previously worked with Esthetique Beauty Clinic in the city, which clinched a top industry award in 2021.

Hair Studio Yolanda is open from 9am until 5.30pm from Tuesday to Friday, and 9am until 6.30pm on Saturday.
