A BLOW has been dealt to Droitwich after it was revealed another business would close its branch in the town centre.

Lloyds Bank in Victoria Square said it will shut for good next year because more customers choose to bank online.

This is the second bank in Victoria Square to reveal a closure this year after HSBC shut its doors in July

The only remaining bank in the town will be Santander.

A spokesperson for Lloyds said: "The world is becoming more digital than ever before and more of our customers are doing their everyday banking online.

"With more customers banking digitally, we have seen a fall in-branch visits.

"Because of this, we have decided to close this branch.

"We are still here to support you, and there are a number of ways you can do your everyday banking with us - online, on your mobile, over the phone, or at a post office.

"You can use any of our branches and the nearest alternative is the Bromsgrove branch.

"After the branch closes, we will have a Community Banker visit this area.

"They can offer support and guidance on the ways you can bank with us."

A detailed report on how people use the Droitwich branch found that 294 customers used the branch regularly across 12 months.

It found that 78 per cent of its customers had used other Lloyds Bank branches, internet banking or PhoneBank and a further 29 per cent of personal customers using the branch have also used the Post Office.

Once closed, the nearest Lloyds branch will be in Bromsgrove, 6.13 miles away, and Worcester, 6.24 miles away.

The branch will officially close on November 14, 2024.

HSBC closed its doors in July after also revealing more of its customers have chosen to use online banking.

It was one of 114 HSBC branches set to close across the UK this year, with its nearest branch now 6.44 miles away on Bromsgrove High Street.

The store remains vacant.
