PEOPLE living along the river Severn in Worcester have been warned to 'act now' as a flood warning is issued in the area.

The Environment Agency (EA) has placed several flood warnings along the Severn in the city and Worcestershire including at Pitchcroft.

Heavy rainfall has led to high water levels with the EA expecting flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Pitchcroft.

However, the river is predicted to peak in Worcester at about 4.8m to 5.0m this morning (Monday).

The EA said: "Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, and we expect river levels to remain high.

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services and Local Authorities.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

There are similar flood warnings on the river Severn at Hawford Wood and Bevere, south Worcester, and at Crown Meadow, Kempsey and Callow End.

Upton-on-Severn has two flood warnings at Hanley Road and East Waterside where it is expected to peak this morning at 5.0m to 5.3m.

Nearby Hanley Castle, Rectory Road in Upton upon Severn and Saxons Lode are also under a flood warning too.

Elsewhere in Worcestershire, the EA has placed a flood warning on the river Avon at Wyre Piddle though levels were expected to peak yesterday afternoon (Sunday) in Evesham between 2.5m and 2.8m.

The river Avon is also under a flood warning at Strensham and Bredon.

There are also two flood alerts - warning people to be prepared - at the Bow and Piddle Brook and the river Avon in Worcestershire.

The Environment Agency said it would provide a new update later this morning.
