King's School has announced that seven of its students have been offered Oxbridge places this year.

The students, dubbed the 'Super Seven', have been given the nod from Oxford and Cambridge, two of the most highly regarded universities in the world.

This continues the school's considerable success rates with the two prestigious institutions, topping the average for other independent schools.

Ruby Kimber, George Campbell-Ferguson, and Frederick Horsfall, all from King's Worcester, have secured conditional offers for studies in fine art, engineering science, and computer science respectively at Oxford.

Meanwhile, George Howard, Lola Morgan, Florence Price, and Lucy Wadley have received conditional offers for studies in economics, linguistics, music, and geography respectively at Cambridge.

Receiving seven offers in one year stands as a substantial achievement as only around one in six applicants to Oxford or Cambridge typically receive an offer.

Over the past three years, there have been nineteen offers, a success rate of one in four.

The headmaster of King's School, Gareth Doodes, said: "Our pupils work incredibly hard and are supported by their teachers and an Oxbridge preparation programme that aims to maximise their chances.

"We do not put a limit on their aspiration: if a pupil wants to apply, we support them, with advice on wider reading, mock interviews, and guidance on how to prepare for entrance tests."

Oxbridge applications head, Dr Ronan McLaverty-Head, said: "From the Lower Remove (Y9), our academic enrichment programme prepares pupils to go 'beyond the classroom' and develop a genuine and profound interest in their subjects.

"To get an Oxbridge offer, they need top GCSE results and to be on their way to mostly A*s at A-level.

"Our pupils commit to be the best they can be, with Oxbridge acting as a strong motivation.

"Even if they don’t quite make it, their profile makes them highly attractive to other top universities."

In addition to encouragement and academic guidance, King’s provides its students with a dedicated Oxford and Cambridge preparation day in their lower sixth (Y12) year, along with additional support in later terms for further preparations.

The successful pupils will now turn their attention towards achieving the necessary A-level results.
