MYSTERY surrounds the closure of an independent bookshop in the city centre which had been open for just over a year.

Bored and Bookless in Friar Street in Worcester has closed although it is still understood to be trading online.

A message on the website said: "The staff are sad to announce the closure of the shop."

We reported how the independent bookshop opened in November 2022, directly opposite historic Greyfriars House and Garden, the late medieval merchant's house managed by the National Trust.

In June 2023 Clive Mantle, an author and actor from Game of Thrones and Casualty, came to the Worcester bookshop for a 'Morning with Mantle and Malone' today, taking questions from the public, including about his Freddie Malone adventure children's books.

Staff spoke in December 2022 about the huge potential if they can make use of the upper floors for a book club with tea, coffee and cake for their customers.

The bookshop's upper floors command spectacular and, by many, never before seen views of Friar Street and Greyfriars, the timber-framed building which is in the care of the National Trust.

Worcester News has attempted to contact staff for a comment.
