Warndon's Conservative councillor, Owen Cleary, said: "I'm shocked to learn of the car accident on Windermere Drive. Although there are traffic calming measures much further along the road, there are none on this stretch, between the petrol station and Blackpole roundabout.

"This underlines the need for regular review of our ward's roads safety. I have raised the matter with the county council and will be asking the Highways agency what can be done to improve safety and reduce risk. My thoughts and prayers are with the woman who was injured and I thank our emergency services who arrived so speedily. I urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the local police team."
