UPDATE:

A BODY has been found following a search that took place after an 18-year-old man was seen entering the water in Shavers End Quarry in Stourport.

At around 3.45pm today (July 8) the body was recovered by police divers from North West Police underwater search team that have been helping with the investigation.

A formal identification has not yet taken place, but it is believed to be the missing 18-year-old man that entered the water yesterday (July 7) evening.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

 

THE emergency services are searching Shavers End Quarry in Stourport after a man was seen entering the water.

The incident was reported yesterday (Sunday July 7) just before 9pm, and police, fire crews and ambulance service carried out a search at the quarry and surrounding area.

One man is currently believed missing and an "extensive search" was launched to find him. The young man's next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.

Emergency services are in the area and thorough searches are continuing today, with a cordon set up around the surrounding area.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area on the evening who saw what happened, or saw anyone get out of the quarry, to contact them.

Detective Inspector Jim Hopkins said: "We are continuing the search of the quarry and the surrounding area of land.

He continued: "We would continue to urge anyone who was in the area at the time to provide any information they may have."
